going to California

R has bravely volunteered to deal with the children for 3 days and 2 nights -- so I'm off to California to see the aged parents, since it's my father's birthday on Saturday and we're all pretty pleased he's still here for it.

It's just about midnight in DC and I have to get up at 4 for my flight, so that's about it for this post.
