little angels

Every so often your children really do put their best foot forward.

We had a late breakfast / brunch thing today with some friends; there were six kids in total from an almost-seven-year-old to Rr. Our host kept remarking on how mature L was, and Rr was charming the masses also. I thought that R was going to faint when -- after the other kids had wreaked havoc, stuffed their faces, and bolted -- L finished her first two pancakes and said,"May I please have some more pancakes?" Then once she was finished she actually took her plate into the kitchen and put it by the sink: swoon. The other parents were lightly stunned.

Then when we were at our friends' Seder this evening, L was very good with her friend S, and Rr was knocking their socks off at the "adults" table. Our hostess' father was there and he does pediatric research (MD / PhD type of fellow), and he was taken with both of them and their independence and self-reliance, for their age. So we must be doing something right. Well, R must be doing something right and I am not buggering it up too badly.
