enjoying the peace and quiet
One advantage of a quiet night in for New Year's Eve is being able to function -- sort of -- the next day. Rr seemed better and the weather was reasonable, so we decided to make a quick run down to the museums so that L could have a go on the Carousel (merry-go-round) there.
We ended up running into some friends who had tried and failed to go ice-skating, so a jolly time was being had until we realized it was nearly 1 and the baby was drooping. So that was one nap opportunity botched.
But the main thing is that for once we were actually able to get around town in no time, and didn't have to fight through 8 million tourists just to take advantage of living here. Which was a nice change of pace.
We also went over to some other friends in the late afternoon for some latkes as they were winding up Hannukah. I've heard that the Scots have tried to claim that they were the lost 13th tribe of Israel and nothing about the latke experience makes me doubt it. I had to put my clothes in the wash, though, just to get the eau de frying out.
Sadly, today it was pissing down and Rr had a bit of a relapse, being extra hingy and very much in need of lots of parental contact. Just to torment R, when the baby perked up, all she wanted to do was to hold hands and walk around the house. Solo walking can't come soon enough for the maternal leader of the house...
So back to work tomorrow, and thus to renew my efforts at pretending that I find Gantt charts interesting. Still, it pays the bills, which stimulates some enthusiasm.
