socializing?

The Memorial Day weekend is usually good for at least one barbeque or similar; we were downright sociable this year -- although to the relief of all, I did not kick off "ugly shirt" season in quite the same (ahem) style as last year.

Anyway, there was something for everyone. Our friend AM and his wife had a wing-ding on Saturday night to celebrate his getting an MBA -- it had been a hurry-up effort over nights and weekends, and seems to have helped him land a better job, so plainly well done. They had some tables outside and paella etc., for the assembled masses; it was probably 68F / 20C and just perfect evening weather. The kids were at home with a sitter, so we were actually able to complete a conversation / have a bit of a laugh.

The local-great-grandparents had us over for dinner on Sunday -- it really was a miracle that no-one got food poisoning or allergic reactions due to casual food handling on great-grandmother's part (mixing shrimp-and-fish sausages, which would make R sick for sure, with everything else on an uncooked stack of goodness, etc.) God love great-grandma for still having a go with the grill aged 87, but unfortunately she is going blind with macular degeneration and really has no idea when anything is cooked. We had to microwave L's burger behind great-grandma's back, and I think R's burger might still have been mooing quietly when it reached the table. Still, the girls had a grand time, and the air-conditioning was cranked to artic melt levels, as it was definitely toastier...

And today L had a birthday party to go to, and then we had some more grilled goodness (cooked through this time) with some friends afterward. The birthday boy had a bouncy castle / moon bounce in the front yard, and I could tell it was hot because L was in there only for 20 minute increments instead of her usual 60 minute voyages of ricochet -- turned out it was something like 92 F / 34 C. No wonder all the kids were turning down birthday cake for popsicles...

Anyway, we're plainly easing into DC summer, so we might as well all get to used to the sweating now. Resistance is futile.
