reunion: day 3

After an unusually efficient start to the day, we had the kids dressed and the car packed before we were to meet everyone for breakfast. That turned into an extended farewell and next thing you knew we were leaving an hour later than planned. Rr was asleep in less than 5 minutes, and L shortly thereafter so we had a quiet drive down into New Jersey to meet R's uncle S for lunch.

This was a plus for several reasons, not least of which was lunch in a good old-school diner and a chance for me to watch 2 minutes of World Cup action -- well, the waning minutes of Mexico vs Iran, anyway.

We eventually saddled up again and headed off to the countryside of south Jersey to see R's sister and her family at the Dome... they couldn't have made the stop nicer; the kids had a great time, we were fed home-made lasagna, and I managed to see a whole 10 minutes of Angola vs. Portugal. Since I had been puzzling people all day with my Angola shirt, I had hoped to see something of it...

Anyway, we got home in one piece and everything from the car reeked of smoke - even L's teddy bear. Apparently the trunk of the car still reeks two days later...

So it was an interesting experience but a lot of hassle -- still, R really enjoyed catching up with her friends, and the kids had good fun when the opportunities presented themselves, so there you go...
