Fire Watch

Having lived in southern California, I think of fire season as being in the late summer, and fire weather as being very hot, and very very dry -- like, humidity in the low teens dry.

Thanks to the wonders of ForecastFox, I now know that a fire watch in the Maryland / Northern VA area is on. Evidently it's caused by winds, dry trees etc., and -- brace yourself -- humidity in the low 30s percentage range. Oh look out.

Actually, the most reliable indicator of cold, dry weather -- especially the amount and severity of wind -- is L's legs. As the least sheltered part of the body barring perhaps the face, there's been a lot of chapping lately. But that still didn't make me think that forest fires were on the way...
