not what I thought they meant

I was skimming through the New Yorker last night -- my usual scan of the cartoons and the film reviews while lying to myself about reading the whole thing later -- when my eye was caught by an advert at the side of a page.

Now, if you had split your time growing up between first the UK andUK-expat circles, and then California, and you saw an advert for a Hottie Bottie, you might have the same questions I did: why are they advertising the backsides of young lovelies in the New Yorker? Doesn't Conde Nast have Vanity Fair for that? Is this for some kind of organization that trades in young things with literary pretensions?

Nothing that interesting. It's a fleece scarf that has a holder for a heating pack. Not prurient, just a little lame. Sigh.
